Debating in the Empire State Building

On the weekend of January 21-22nd The University of Rochester Debate Union traveled down to New York City for the Kings College Worlds Debate Tournament hosted in the Empire State Building in Manhattan. URDU was strongly represented by 6 Worlds debate partnerships who debated fiercely – Our own Zachary Taylor was the 7th best Novice Speaker and Alap Patel was 9th. It was a very good showing for the team!
The motions we debated:
Empire Debates – King’s College NYC 2012
1. This House Supports strong rent control laws.
2. This House Would homeschool.
3. This House Believes that the American Revolution was unjustified.
4. This House Believes that most people should not go to college.
5. This House Would delete Facebook.
6. This House Would end public sex offender registries.

Semifinals: This House Supports Ron Paul for President of the United States.

Grand Final: A future department of justice should prosecute Obama administration officials for illegal drone strikes. ST. JOHN’s U. WON, ST. JOHN’S U. 2nd

Novice Final: This House Would not stop Internet privacy. YALE WON, BARD 2nd
