Friday, March 3 marked National Speech Education Day, a unanimous Senate decision.
In honor of the national recognition of “the lifelong impact of providing people with the confidence and preparation to both discern and share views,” [Sen Res 65] URDU freshman Bri Terrell decided to put on a fundraiser for Speech Education. The organization of choice was Leaping Boundaries, of which URDU President ameritus Reefat Aziz was a founder. The organization works to help women in madrasahs in Bangladesh integrate into the mainstream via speech education — through debate competitions, spelling bees, and other public speaking exercises.
URDU raised $150 for the organization and had a successful social media campaign in Wilson Commons.
